About Pod Umna

To Pod or not to Pod? That is the question...

And the answer has to be to be ‘to Pod’. No question about it. Pod Umna is in a calm and peaceful setting right in the heart of Portumna town, with all its history and amenities.

Our ‘Pods’ are set in a tree-lined village landscape. They are charming, very comfortable and functional. They make a great daytime base, they sleep up to five, and each fully insulated Pod comes with mattresses, power and heating, and its own BBQ and deck area, complete with table and chairs.

Perhaps you might prefer a more traditional camping option? well then check out our fabulous Bell Tents, they can sleep up to six people, come with a luxuriously comfortable double bed plus four additional comfy single mattreses. You have an electric socket and your own decking.

On-site facilities include toilets, hot showers, drying room, meeting rooms.play room and workshops. There’s a kitchen and dining room if you want to self-cater, we can offer groups meals on-site as part of group packages or can recommend  local restaurants and cafés if you would to dine out.

Exploring and adventure 12 months a year

Pod Umna offers adventurers’ low-cost camping-in-comfort all year. Forget about carrying loads of equipment and battling with the elements to set up camp. Your Pod is ready and waiting. All you need is your sleeping bag and pillow and you are go to go.

Better yet, because of Portumna’s unique position just near where the Shannon enters Lough Derg and on Galway’s border with Tipperary, it’s the ideal base for exploring the wild and beautiful West.

So if you are a walker, cyclist or canoeist, or a family, couple or group looking for a break or a holiday somewhere different, then Pod Umna Village could well be the place for you.

Family Gatherings and Reunions

We see Family Reunions and Gatherings of all sorts being very important to our business and will accommodate and arrange for exclusive use of  Pod Umna Village for any large group who wish to stay with us.

Groups and themes

The village is designed to be flexible and can cater for exclusive group weekends for scouts, guides and youth groups; football, rugby and hurling teams; family reunions; life coaching, corporate team building and bonding, and much more besides.

If you’d be interested in a themed Glamping experience, we can arrange this for you, too. Call us and tell us about the theme you’re thinking of – a Hobbit village, Arabian nights, a winter wonderland, an army boot camp or whatever you have in mind and we’ll work with you to make it happen.

Courses and events

Pod Umna is next door to the de Burgos Gate Lodge training centre, and the two organisations work closely together to run a wide variety of residential courses, including corporate events and covering subjects like art and photography, creative writing, dance, fitness, yoga and meditation.

We can host events of your own design for businesses, groups and individuals, or design programmes for you, working with specialist partners and equipment.

Sports, Cycling and the great outdoors...

If you’re after a little excitement, we can offer you canoeing, sailing, water skiing and wind surfing, horse riding and clay pigeon shooting, go-karting or any number of other activities. You just have to ask.

Bike Hire

We have a select of Bikes which can be hired on site.

Or if you’d prefer something a little more relaxing, like a game of golf ,historic /nature trails walks, cruise on Lough Derg/ River Shannon, these can easily be arranged.

Music, Dining and Socialising

Like so much of Ireland, Portumna has a proud musical tradition and there are numerous friendly watering holes that provide live staged or impromptu music sessions catering to all tastes in music.

But if you’d rather just enjoy a quiet pint of the black stuff in the company of some of the locals, you’ll find a warm welcome and plenty of colourful characters who can spin a good yarn or two.

Portumna offers the visitor a wide selection of Cafes and Restaurants, click here for a list of places to eat and socialise.
